CaP Painter documentation and tutorial Overview
CAP is an EAD run time system (like most everthing else IEG has). It modifies ASP and DHTML pages built by our Interface Builder (IB) product according to a well-defined set of design objectives:
- Ease of use (GUI oriented),
- No training and minimal documentation requirements,
- Browser based (IE 6.0 required, Netscape is NOT supported),
- Integration with a forms database management system (EAD run time),
- No HTML or JAVA or Visual Basic skills are required,
- Allow changing a strict subset of presentation elements such as:
- Changing prompt (display) wording,
- Setting initial values in text data entry fields,
- Changing foreground and background colors of displays and data entry elements,
- Moving and resizing displays, graphics, and data entry elements,
- Hiding displays, graphics and unused data entry elements,
- Changing the tab order of fields on a form,
- Modified pages can be deployed immediately without having to submit them to IB,
- Modified pages can be modified again without requiring special operational procedures.
Installation Preparation
Set up directories.
CAP installs into C:\IEG\CAP by default. You can install to any local drive (D:\ for example) and into other directories; however, we recommend you keep the names short and have NO embedded spaces in directory names.
You will need to have a directory for each system under the installation directory which has the system name of the EAD business segment (FINN, SIS are some examples).
If you are using an older IB version, your <ISPEC>.asp files go here (but you really should upgrade to the newer version of IB).
If you are using newer IB versions, under each system's directory you will need a directory for each of the 'Languages' such as ENGLISH, or INTERNAL, or WEBUSER. Your <ISPEC>.asp files go here.
Copy files.
Copy the ISPEC's ASP files to their appropriate locations.
If you have used external CSS style sheets, they will need to be placed application or system folder you defined and created in CaP.
Here are some examples:
D:\IEG\CAP\FINN\BASIC\menu.asp
D:\IEG\CAP\FINN\POWER\menu.asp
D:\IEG\CAP\FINN\iegcss.htm
C:\IEG\CAP\SISDB\INTERNAL\logon.asp
C:\IEG\CAP\SISDB\EXTERNAL\webon.asp
C:\IEG\CAP\TOMATO\menu.asp
Installation
Download CAP.exe from our site as instructed by IEG. It is a self-extracting Install Shield which will guide you through the installation process.
On first execution, create a new CAPDB database. Open a CAPDB session and define the location of Internet Explorer (CAP requires IE 6.0+).
For each new system, open a CAPDB session and define the location of the system's folder.
Un-Installation
If you need to uninstall (prior to installing a new version), in Windows choose Start...Programs...IEG CAP...Uninstall. Confirm the file deletion request. Your directory structure and .asp files will remain intact. Manually remove capjs.js from the NEW and WORK directories under each language under each system.
Credits
We wish to extend a big thank you to our IB users who conceived CAP and who helped us during "Alpha" test. We wouldn't have done it without you!
